Hargeisa to Laas Geel to Berbera
After breakfast, drive to the remarkable Laas Geel rock art caves, an outstanding archaeological complex containing some of the finest and best-preserved Neolithic rock paintings in Africa. Dated to roughly 5,000–9,000 years old and on Somaliland’s UNESCO tentative list, the site lies about 50 km from Hargeisa and is reached by 4x4 with a permit and a local escort, both included in your tour. The artwork depicts cattle, wild animals and early pastoral communities, offering a rare window into prehistoric life in the region. Continue to Berbera, Somaliland's historic gateway to the sea. On arrival, visit an old Ottoman-era mosque and traditional houses before a late lunch in a restored heritage building. In the afternoon, take a short boat excursion along the coastline in search of historic shipwrecks, with time on an untouched beach where local families relax and swim (modest swimwear is required for women for cultural reasons). In the early evening, walk through the Berbera old town and admire its Ottoman, Persian and British-era architecture, with sunset creating excellent photography opportunities.

Vaccinations & health advice
Consult your doctor or a certified travel clinic 4–8 weeks before departure. No vaccination is specifically required for Somaliland for most travellers, but general Horn of Africa recommendations apply. If you arrive from a country with yellow-fever risk, bring a valid certificate. Depending on your itinerary your doctor may also advise on malaria prevention.
Travel insurance: why it matters
Comprehensive travel insurance is required before arrival. It should cover:

Medical treatment and emergency evacuation

Trip interruption or cancellation

Lost or delayed luggage

Unexpected travel disruptions

Due to limited medical infrastructure outside the capital, we strongly recommend a policy that includes emergency medical evacuation.
