Keren is the second-largest city in Eritrea. It is situated around 91 kilometers northwest of Asmara at an elevation of 1,390 meters above sea level. It has a moderate climate. The fine tarmac road, built by the Italians, is like a hairpin curved out from mountainous plateaus.

The day starts by visiting the colorful Keren market is every Monday. The bustling market comprises camels, livestock. Keren is well known for the fiercest battles that went on between the Commonwealth and the Italian forces in 1941. The fall of Keren in the hands of the Common Wealth advancing army signaled the end of the Italian occupation in Eritrea.
Visitors will also visit the Italian and Common Wealth war cemeteries, the famous Mariam Dearit temple curved out from a Baobab tree.
In the afternoon, we leave Keren and heading to the Red Sea coast and the port city of Massawa – the pearl of the Red Sea.
